Codex reads your GitHub. It changes nothing.

I want Codex to read issues and pull requests for context. I never want it merging, pushing or commenting through GitHub.

Connect GitHub in Kin and choose Read only. When Codex signs in to Kin, choose Can only read and Only these connections. Kin blocks every change on its own server, whatever Codex is told.

Set it up

  1. Connect GitHub in Kin

    A new connection already lets AI apps read and asks you before every change. GitHub in Kin

  2. Choose Read only

    Open the connection and pick Read only. Reading is allowed and every change is blocked: merges, pushes, comments, new issues, all of it.

  3. Add Kin to Codex

    Run the command below. Codex opens a Kin sign-in in your browser. Codex setup

    codex mcp add kin --url https://app.kinlab.ai/mcp

  4. Narrow what Codex may use

    In the sign-in window, choose Can only read, then Only these connections and tick GitHub. Approve.

Read only on the connection blocks every change for every AI app. Can only read on Codex blocks every change Codex could make anywhere. Either one is enough. With both, Codex is read only even if you later loosen GitHub for another app.

What Codex still does.

Codex searches and reads through Kin: issues, pull requests and their diffs, commits, branches, releases, files and workflow runs. When we checked, a read-only GitHub connection offered every read and blocked every change.

Ask Codex to merge a pull request and Kin finds nothing it may do. If it calls the action anyway, Kin refuses it and tells Codex the action is blocked.

Does this stop Codex from running git on my computer?

No. Kin covers what Codex does through GitHub's API. Commands Codex runs in your terminal are outside Kin.

Can I let it comment but not merge?

Yes. Instead of Read only, set single actions: Allow for comments, Block for merges. Allow, ask or block each tool

Does the same work for Linear?

Yes. Read only is a level on every connection, Linear included. Linear in Kin

Do I need a paid plan?
