Add Kin to LM Studio

Local models in LM Studio.

Before you start

Sign in

Add to LM Studio opens LM Studio and asks to add Kin's address. Confirm, then sign in as the last steps below say.

  1. In LM Studio, open the Program tab in the right-hand sidebar. Select Install, then Edit mcp.json.

  2. Add Kin under mcpServers:

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "kin": {
          "url": "https://app.kinlab.ai/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  3. Save the file. LM Studio opens a Kin window in your browser. If it shows that kin needs you to sign in instead, start the sign-in there.

  4. Kin cannot check who LM Studio is, so it starts read only. Check the connections ticked for it, choose Can read and change if it should make changes, then approve.

After you connect

Ask the app to do something with an account you connected, such as "list my open Linear issues". The app searches Kin for a matching action and runs it if your rule allows it. An action set to Ask me waits for you. See Approvals and questions.

To change what this app may use, open AI apps in Kin. See What each AI app may use.

Use a profile's address

Kin's address for every AI app is https://app.kinlab.ai/mcp. A profile has its own address, shown on the profile. See Profiles.

Use a token instead

Use a token only when the app cannot sign in. Create one in Kin under AI apps, with Connect an AI app and then Paste a token (advanced). Kin shows it once. Replace YOUR_TOKEN with it. See Sign in, or use a token.

  1. Open mcp.json as above and add Kin with your token:

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "kin": {
          "url": "https://app.kinlab.ai/mcp",
          "headers": {
            "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"
          }
        }
      }
    }

Good to know

  • If the file already lists other servers, add the kin entry beside them.

How we checked this guide

These steps follow LM Studio documentation as of October 31, 2026. We have not run every step.

LM Studio's documentation does not show its sign-in screens, so that step is described generally. We read the code of LM Studio 0.4.25: it registers itself with Kin and returns to an address on this computer, which Kin accepts. We opened the one-click link in LM Studio 0.4.28 on November 1, 2026: it showed Add MCP Server with the name kin and the address, and Add wrote that entry to mcp.json with no token. We did not sign in.
